What are the Penn State Smeal Executive Programs?
Participate in a free leadership development program tailored for you - to help you and other LTC leaders at all career stages navigate a challenging industry. We know your time and career are important, so this grant-funded series is delivered virtually. Penn State Executive Programs at the Smeal College of Business and Penn State College of Medicine created these programs to help you address your industry’s current challenges as you build resiliency. Attend these courses at no cost if you're a long-term care facility provider, leader, or manager in the Southcentral region. Join your peers in engaging, strategic, and interactive discussions.
What is the the purpose of the "Communication Strategy for LTC Leaders" course?
Today’s workplace offers a complex variety of modes through which leaders at all oevels communicate critical concepts, ideas, and strategic messages. This program offers a unique design that brings together multiple experts to help you explore effective strategies for communicating up, down, and across the organization, with particular focus on channel selection, message authenticity, creating an atmosphere that supports psychological safety.
As a result of this program, you will be able to:
-Leverage communication as a way to convey messages and strengthen relationships
-Uncover unique drivers of performance in a diverse workforce
-Communicate in a way that supports psychological safety with your audience - whether individuals or teams
-Learn a methodology for effectively communicating your vision and/or change
-Use communication that fosters dialogue, engagement and supports change
-Consider authenticity as a method to help with messaging
-Select the best channels for different messages

What can participants expect to get out of this program?
As a result of this program, participants will be able to:
•Assess and understand the needs of their audience and tailor messages more effectively - whether dealing with one or multiple people
•Approach leadership communication from a conversational perspective
•Communicate and leverage communication channels to align with messaging and audience needs
•Identify common reasons for communication breakdowns
•Understand critical role of communication in driving change and achieving buy-in
•Present themselves and their messaging with an awareness of 'authenticity' and organizational culture
•Consider communication tactics that support the creation of psychological safety for the team and facility
