What are the Penn State Smeal Executive Programs?
Participate in a free leadership development program tailored for you - to help you and other LTC leaders at all career stages navigate a challenging industry. We know your time and career are important, so this grant-funded series is delivered virtually. Penn State Executive Programs at the Smeal College of Business and Penn State College of Medicine created these programs to help you address your industry’s current challenges as you build resiliency. Attend these courses at no cost if you're a long-term care facility provider, leader, or manager in the Southcentral region. Join your peers in engaging, strategic, and interactive discussions.
What is the the purpose of the "Leading and Managing a LTC Team" course?
These interactive sessions focus on the topics that matter most to you: goal attainment, employee recruitment/retention, and organizational success. Select leaders from your facility to join us for this free opportunity.
This program will help you:
- Discuss the importance of emotional intelligence and how youcan use it to be a more effective leader
- Define critical steps in the performance management processand how to use those steps to drive success
- Discuss and maximize drivers of employee motivation & engagement
- Assess teams to harness strengths and increase groupproductivity
When will the course be offered?
SPRING 2025
3 sessions
Each session runs 3 hours, with one 15 minute break
Mar 18 - 20 from 1 - 2:30 PM and 2:45 - 4:15 PM
What can participants expect to get out of this program?
As a result of this program, participants will be able to:
• Explain current expectations for leaders working in an evolving industry during times of volatility
• Describe the concept of emotional intelligence and how it impacts the performance of leaders
• Describe their preferred communication style and how that style relates to those on the team communicating from a different perspective
• Define current and critical elements of workplace diversity, with specific emphasis on LTC stakeholder groups, and outline strategies to overcome communication barriers in the workplace
• Define critical steps in the performance management process and how that process drives success
• Describe drivers of employee motivation and engagement and how to maximize in the workplace
• Assess teams in efforts to maximize strengths and enhance group productivity

Yes! This program is geared toward 'people managers' of all levels. It is an opportunity to learn from the instructors as well as other participants in efforts to share ideas, best practices, and to refresh your supervisory and managerials skills.
